love this icon. She’s so gorgeous, mysterious & saucy. I decided to create the background of this piece from replicas of the front page of the Los Angeles times, during her lifetime. I originally had more photos in it but they made the piece look too blocky, so I ended up covering them. James Dean’s obituary is still there though as well as many other tidbits of history. I created her face with a stencil style but used cut paper for the black.
I had this piece professionally scanned and each piece of text is legible and crisp even at the smaller print sizes.
