Beck is such a quirky guy. His music goes all over the place, with eclectic themes, crazy beats and rhythm styles. Is he folk, rock, or alternative? I feel like you can’t really lock him down into one genre. This piece was inspired by a Beck induced a social experiment, where his album: The Information came as a plain blue grid filled with various stickers, so the fans could create their own album cover. I had a blast recreating each element from the bubble gum pink clouds to the cavernous void at the bottom. This was a fun journey. First of course was to layer the background with guitar notes and tablature from Becks album Odelay, then I designed and laid the grid lines by hand. The black tower hides 5 layers of purples to create a custom soft gradient. The Mountain is made from a watercolor styled paper that flows with movement as the light casts over the mountain. I was able to find black and white photos of Beck and create the metal orbs floating throughout the piece. My favorite of all is the buffalo. I used the grasses from one of His Hollywood hills photo shoots to create the buffalo-bat section. This quirky piece is all made out of paper and cut by my hand. I feel like it’s a perfect reflection of Becks eclectic style. I am grateful for the opportunity to create something so fun and quirky.
